After communicating with you through press\nreleases over the past few weeks (twice on the five-year report of the\nCommission on end of life care and twice on the recommendations made by  a UN committee to Canada – more on this\nbelow), we are back in newsletter format to provide you with some information\nof interest in the midst of the federal election campaign.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities are struggling to resonate in Canada<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

On March 26, the United Nations Committee on\nthe Rights of Persons with Disabilities recommended that Canada repeal Track 2\nof its medical assistance in dying law (<\/span>reminder of our press release<\/a>). Have you heard anything about it\nsince then?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Since the launch of the federal election\ncampaign, the issue of expanding medical aid in dying has generally not been\naddressed by the various parties in the running.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

We invite you to remind your local candidates\nof your wish to put an end to the expansion of access to medical aid in dying,\nespecially in light of the findings of the UN Committee (see above). Their\nfirst concern should be to commit to undoing the expansion of access to MAID\nfor people whose \u201csole underlying medical condition is a mental illness\u201d (a\nmeasure planned for March 2027).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Only one party has spoken out on the repeal of Track\n2 of MAiD, the Greens:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

It will also be interesting to hear the various\nparties’ views on potential expansions regarding advance requests for MAiD\n(still contrary to the Criminal Code) and mature minors.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
