Sonu Gaind.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The situation leading Alberta to propose such a bill is not different from that of Quebec. Quebec already excludes mental illness from its end-of-life care legislation, and some of the proposed measures would be difficult to apply in Quebec due to the <i>Gladu\u2013Truchon<\/i> decision. For example, Alberta seeks to make MAiD available only to individuals whose death is reasonably foreseeable within the next 12 months.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Other options proposed by the province are, however, conceivable, such as these two:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top:0cm\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Healthcare professionals would be prohibited from proactively <br>suggesting MAiD to patients and could only discuss it if the<br>&nbsp;patient raises it first.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">A ban on displaying information about MAiD in healthcare <br>institutions, in order to reduce any influence or pressure on patients.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">We look forward to following for you the evolution and the future impact of this bill.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-be3c8c3 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"be3c8c3\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-206dbd3\" data-id=\"206dbd3\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85b4968 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"85b4968\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Scotland says no<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8776f3e elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8776f3e\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a486e72\" data-id=\"a486e72\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e702b89 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e702b89\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The\nScottish Parliament rejected this week the legalization of \u201cassisted dying\u201d by\na vote of 69 to 57.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">As S\u00e9gol\u00e8ne\nPerruchio of the French Society for Support and Palliative Care (SFAP) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/s%C3%A9gol%C3%A8ne-perruchio-771b1197_scottish-parliament-votes-against-legalising-activity-7439916465593622528-QW4O\/\">noted\non LinkedIn<\/a>, the legalization of MAiD \/ euthanasia \/ assisted suicide \u201cis\nnot an inevitable progress moving in the direction of history.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">For his\npart, Scottish physician Jonny Blackwell, who worked hard to defeat the bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JonnyBlackwell\/status\/2034165421021024632\">welcomed the\nresult<\/a>:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u201cScotland\nis brighter this morning. <br>\nI was deeply moved by stories both for and against. <br>\nI hope Scotland will now invest properly in comprehensive palliative,\npsychiatric and social care so nobody will ever want assisted suicide. <br>\nWe chose the harder but better path.
