French actress\u00a0Emmanuelle B\u00e9art explains\u00a0how her opinion has changed\u00a0regarding end of life<\/a> following the role she played in the French film\u00a0\u00ab Ma compagne de nuit<\/a> \u00bb.\u00a0She played the role of\u00a0Julia, a woman with advanced cancer,\u00a0who choses to live out the rest of her days at home.<\/p>\n

In an interview,\u00a0B\u00e9art\u00a0affirms that instead of talking about euthanasia we should be insuring acess to palliative care.\u00a0She\u00a0further explains:<\/p>\n

\u00ab How do we help someone who is dying to live fully until the end? Maybe by trying to find with them another meaning\u00a0to life, or by tasting other forms of life's pleasure? A sunbeam, a glass of wine, or a simple look become important.\u00a0Perhaps a final meeting\u00a0in order to reconcile ourselves with someone we love\u2026 For me that question there\u00a0captivates me much more\u00a0than euthanasia. \u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Emmanuelle B\u00e9art explains how she accompanied\u00a0her grandmother,\u00a0who died of\u00a0cancer, during her last days. They often found themselves feeling very alone face to face with the system shortcomings\u00a0and a great lack of ressources.<\/p>\n

It became obvious to her during\u00a0her preparations for the film shooting that the needs of the sick evolve as time passes. Thus, the expressing of a\u00a0wish to die\u00a0is often\u00a0a disguised\u00a0request for help; and when that help is offered to accompagny them in living,\u00a0 patients no longer\u00a0request death.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Some can't go on, they ask that we help them to die. But when we propose to accompagny them, when we take care of their physical pain and their psychological suffering, when we accompany their family, because for them the journey is very hard,\u00a0the request for death often ceases. \u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
