Living with Dignity in the midst of many Spring Events, Ready to Launch Its Major Campaign

After a pause of over a month from publishing our newsletter, we are pleased to reconnect with you to provide updates on our activities and what lies ahead in the coming weeks. We are very excited to soon share with you our upcoming campaign to encourage loved ones, with love and respect, not to choose medical aid in dying. The launch will take place this May. If you are attending the Congress of the Quebec Palliative Care Association in Trois-Rivières, feel free to come and greet me there before the end of the day on Friday.

Living with Dignity Citizen Network

Many Meetings on the Agenda for Living with Dignity

April and May are particularly busy months for the Living with Dignity citizen network. In addition to preparing for our campaign leading up to the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the End-of-Life Care Act, we are participating in several events:

– On April 24, the scientific committee on medical aid in dying of the Psychiatry Department of the CHUM held the scientific event Medical Aid in Dying in Quebec: 10 Years Later, in Montreal. You can view here the program content (in French) that allowed for numerous relevant exchanges with the approximately 200 people gathered for the occasion. Despite the diverging views expressed, our critical perspective on the effects of adopting a law opening the door to MAID in Quebec was well received, and we would like to thank the organizing committee and all the individuals we met.

– On May 2nd and 3rd, the Congress of the Quebec Palliative Care Association. We particularly like the theme of its 33rd edition: Dare to Hope! (Oser l’espoir!). You can see here the program and PowerPoint presentations from the Congress (in French).

– On May 8th in Quebec City, National Meeting on home care. The Coalition pour la dignité des aînés (Coalition for the dignity of seniors)is organizing this meeting to discuss best practices and solutions in home care. For more details (in French).

Calling all caregivers: take part in a research project on end-of-Life decisions and medical aid in dying.

We invite you to participate in a free training program(in French) for informal caregivers. The research team at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières is recruiting caregivers of all profiles, including those opposed to MAID. Here are the details:

“Learn more about medical aid in dying, palliative care, and other end-of-life decisions. Participation in the study takes a total of approximately 3 hours and involves completing a questionnaire three times, each taking 30 to 45 minutes, and watching 5 training videos, each lasting 10 minutes. Each participant who completes the three questionnaires receives a $45 gift card.”
