Dr. André Bourque, co-founder and first president of Living with Dignity, died suddenly on December 29, 2012. He was a man of action, a health professional with great determination, resilient and always striving for social justice. We thank him for defending the inalienable human value that is the dignity of each person.

Dr. Bourque had a varied family medicine practice in Montreal for 40 years. He was experienced in emergency medicine and ambulatory medicine as well as palliative and long-term care. He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Université de Montréal and was the

Chief of the Department of General Medicine at the CHUM from 2001 to 2010.

Dr. Bourque was co-author of a brief against euthanasia and assisted suicide that was endorsed by more than 100 doctors in Québec and presented to the Collège des Médecins du Québec on August 31st 2009, and was one of the 24 founding members of the Physicians’ Alliance for Total Refusal of Euthanasia.
