Call to Action with Three Simple Questions
The Living
with Dignity citizen network invites you to take part in one of the simplest
actions you can add to your agenda: email your candidates and ask them one or
more of these three questions, depending on which themes matter most to you.
What is your party proposing to improve access to palliative care in Quebec and in your riding?
What is your personal view and that of your party on medical assistance in dying for mental illness?
What is your party proposing to guarantee the autonomy of people with disabilities who wish to live at home rather than in a CHSLD (long-term care facility)?
It’s best
to avoid long emails. The following template, which you can adjust as you like,
may be useful:

also ask your questions to candidates who knock on your door or whom you meet
in public, before the October 5th election.

1) Access to palliative care

2) Expanding
MAID to mental illness
This expansion is being debated in Ottawa and could move forward as early as
March 2027.

3) Giving
people with disabilities who don’t wish to live in a CHSLD (long-term care
home) a choice
Two political parties have made proposals along these lines:
– The bill on Self-Directed Personal Assistance for people with disabilities,
tabled last spring by the Parti Québécois and supported by Coop ASSIST and its
president, Jonathan Marchand.
– The Quebec
Liberal Party has also recently promised a similar
bill (details to
come).
Note: We
have targeted three priority issues that have not received much public
attention so far during the campaign. Feel free to raise other issues (home
care, caregiving support, etc.) in your exchanges as well.
