Mrs. de Montigny is a psychologist, in the palliative care unit at McGill University's Health Center, the Montreal General hospital and in a private practice.

Belgium-Euthanasia: Is the conscience clause legitimate?

The conscience clause that certain health institutes put forward in order to not apply the law on euthanasia in Belgium will be subject to a non-biding opinion of the bioethics consulting comity, in which "one part tends to prove" that there exists "no legal basis" permitting to affirm that it might be "legitimate", indicated one of its members Tuesday, however recognizing that there was no unanimity regarding the subject.

The deviations of the anticipated declaration of euthanasia in Belgium

To avoid what she considers a painful administrative procedure, Elke Sleurs proposes to double the validity of the declarations.

Senator N-VA Elke Sleurs proposed Friday that the anticipated euthanasia declarations remain valid for a period of ten years compared to the actual five years. Since 2008, the law allows to make these declarations before the commune.
